Year 5
Welcome to Year 5!
As the children enter Year 5, they are moving into the upper phase of Key Stage 2.
We promote an ethos where the children take on more responsibility for their learning, challenge themselves to do their best and become increasingly independent in all aspects of school life.
Our aim is to engage the children in ‘educational talk’ and give them as many opportunities as possible to learn through discussion with their peers. We continue to follow the Power Maths work, examples of our approach to maths can be found in our Year 5 Calculation Policy
Throughout the year, we explore a wide range of topics and enjoy a variety of learning experiences. Our topics for the year are: Victorians, Rivers and The Anglo-Saxons.
In Science, we learn about Properties and Changes of Materials, Forces, Earth and Space, Animals Including Humans, and Living Things and their Habitats.
Without doubt, one of the highlights of the year is our residential trip to Warren Barn in April, during which time your child will increase their independence, self-confidence, sense of responsibility and teamwork skills.
