Year 4

Welcome to Year 4!

Year 4 is an exciting time for the children, as they are now well immersed into KS2 life. There are lots more opportunities for learning through a wide range of fun and engaging history and geography topics previously unexplored. Topics include; World War 2, London and The Vikings. In addition to this, we also investigate different science themes that the children love, such as Electricity, Sound, Habitats and Animals.

We continue to learn maths following the Power Maths scheme, examples of our approach to maths can be found in our Year 4 Calculation Policy. We also prepare children to know their times tables to 12x12 by the end of year 4.

Our creative Art and Design projects often link closely to the topics that we are studying throughout the year and children are encouraged to offer their imaginative ideas to extend their understanding and develop their ability to work as a team.

Overall, perhaps the single most important aspect of this year is children’s increasing independence and confidence in what they can achieve at school. We encourage the children to start to think about their own learning. They need to make decisions on how to present work and also how to learn best. We aim to nurture and encourage the feelings of independent thinking, learning and decision making. We hope that your child will enjoy the year and gain a lot of valuable skills and knowledge that they can take forwards throughout their school life and into the wider community.
