Year 3

Welcome to Year 3

In Year 3 we learn in fun and creative ways. As the children enter a new Key Stage and move up through the school, we encourage them to be more independent and take on responsibilities in all aspects of school life.

Throughout the year, the classes discover interesting topics and enjoy a variety of learning experiences. Our topics for the year include Egyptians, The Stone Age and Rainforests. Our Geography and History learning encourages us to dive into historical eras or places and imagine how life might be different. We learn key skills alongside of finding out about significant events and people that have shaped our world.

As part of Science, children learn about Forces, Rocks, Light, Plants and Animals including humans. We take an investigative approach to our Science learning which is complemented by our Spring trip where children get a chance to participate in workshops at the Science Museum @Bristol.

Children in Year 3 get involved in a range of Design and Technology and Art based projects including clay Egyptian artefacts, designing and making free-standing picture frames and creating rainforest art. We begin our year by learning to play the recorder and develop our musical skills further through singing lessons and using instruments to create soundscapes.

We continue to follow the Power Maths scheme, examples of our approach to maths can be found in our Year 3 Calculation Policy

We are lucky enough to have fantastic facilities that allow us to develop skills in outdoor and indoor Physical Education alongside of swimming in our outdoor pool.

We love being active in our learning and challenging ourselves and each other to reach our potential!
