The rainforest is a truly tropical greenhouse. We have learnt that more than two-thirds of the world's plant species are found in the tropical rainforests: some are colourful and small, some are plain but impressively tall. Each and every single plant has a purpose...
Year 3 have been very busy researching different animals for the rainforest and have created some amazing Top Trump cards about them. Will the Leopard beat the Strawberry poison dart frog on ‘bite’ or will the caiman beat piranha in ‘deadliness’? We’ve had lots of fun...

Year 4 curriculum newsletter for Autumn 2018
Our team consists of Teachers Mr Western, Miss Smith and Mr Hughes, ably assisted by Teaching Assistant Mrs Heard.
Year 4 is an exciting time for the children, as they are now well immersed into KS2 life. There are lots more opportunities for learning through a wide range of fun and engaging history and geography topics previously unexplored. Topics include; World War 2, London and The Vikings. In addition to this, we also investigate different science themes that the children love, such as Electricity, Sound, Habitats and Animals.
Our creative Art and Design projects often link closely to the topics that we are studying throughout the year and children are encouraged to offer their imaginative ideas to extend their understanding and develop their ability to work as a team.
Over the last 3 years, we have been fortunate enough to take part in a project run by the Devon Wildlife Trust at Seaton Jurassic and we look forward to finding out what the focus for our project will be this year.
Overall, perhaps the single most important aspect of this year is children’s increasing independence and confidence in what they can achieve at school. We encourage the children to start to think about their own learning. They need to make decisions on how to present work and also how to learn best. We aim to nurture and encourage the feelings of independent thinking, learning and decision making. We hope that your child will enjoy the year and gain a lot of valuable skills and knowledge that they can take forwards throughout their school life and into the wider community.
