Last Wednesday the Year 5 children had an unusual experience when they came to school. Dressed in Victorian clothes they explored what school was like during the reign of Queen Victoria. Desks were set in rows, ‘Dunces hats’ were once more dusted off and even the fearsome cane made an appearance later in the morning.

Among other things, the children recited the lords prayer, sang ‘Onward Christian Soldiers’ and wrote with pen and ink. Children were referred to by  their surnames, made to stand when an adult entered the room and the inequality between boys and the girls was well and truly experienced( much to the annoyance of some of the girls)!!

Here are some of the children’s thoughts on the morning.

Next week the children go on a school trip to a working Victorian mill and meet the fearsome Mr Robson who runs the mill. We will keep you posted!!
